Overall we had a great time. The most outstanding aspect of this trip was the local guide, Pedro Moreira, who was super knowledgeable, interactive, a lot of fun, and always cheerful and helpful. Petro worked hard to make the trip the success that it was. This being a birding tour, Pedro showed us a diverse, comprehensive, and representative selection of local birdlife, ranging from the iconic species to some exceptional rarities. Pedro also pointed out and explained other interesting sights of both natural and cultural history. The out-of-country tour owner of All4birding and an associate attended too, assisting with logistics and bird-spotting. Cultural highlights included fine dining throughout, wine-tasting at four very different venues, a night tour of a palaeolithic rock-art site, and a day tour of Lisbon.
The recommended changes we suggest come from ourselves being seniors with some mobility limitations and hearing loss. The van could be upgraded to a better model, to allow for the frequent in-and-outs by passengers in the back; a microphone and speaker would improve communication. Getting around at Hotel Casa da Cisterna was problematic owing to the steep cobble streets and stairways, but that was unavoidable considering this unique opportunity to stay in a medieval town. A little more information about each day's events and perhaps a brief interpretive introduction to the places where we stayed would help. Free time could be scheduled to allow participants to rest or explore on their own.
